How To Prepare Your Yacht For Hurricanes

August 29, 2011

As the clean-up phase for Hurricane Irene begins, owners of yachts and other private marine vessels will assess the damage that may have occurred to their boats. Marinas from Florida to Maine will be inspecting their facilities to determine damage and next steps. Hopefully, your yacht made it through the storm without a scratch.

For those in the Caribbean and along the East Coast of the U.S., hurricane season lasts until the end of November. While most sizable storms will occur before the middle of October, there are still three full months left of relative uncertainty.

If you own a yacht, boat or other marine vessel – or you are responsible for a vessel on behalf of an owner – what are some of the best ways to prepare for a possible hurricane? Fortunately, there is a lot of solid information available for first time owners and longtime veterans of the water.
